Free Meal Plans and Family Meal Ideas
Let’s be real. In the midst of Coivid-19 the thought of social isolation was a bit comforting. At first. But we are 7 days into this journey and the shine is starting to wear off. But, here we are doing our best to protect ourselves and others. As the days start to run together and I can’t remember the last time I washed my hair, I started thinking about what I needed. And if I needed these things, other people probably did too.
The reality is that we will probably be in some sort of isolation through the end of April. This thought kind of overwhelms me. And oddly it’s not the “what will I do with my kids” though that sends my head into a tailspin. Ultimately, I know that we will fall into some sort of routine with my little guys and they will continue to thrive. But in these times of uncertainty and unpredictability my anxiety seems to rear her ugly head.
Anxiety can manifest in so many different ways. It can look different on everyone. I tend to find myself feeling very frustrated and irritated. I find that I force myself into a busyness because I can’t seem to cope with being still. I saw this in myself today when I spent a large portion of my day in the kitchen making random food.

I have found a few things to be helpful for me (and it isn’t the daily schedule to manage my sons preschool education). As my world was starting to turn into the big old dumpster fire that is Pandemic 2020, I ventured to Costco, list in hand. Per my usual, I made a list of foods that I figured we would need in coming weeks. These items are useful and versatile for so many meals.
Since we are all at home with our children, spouses, teleworking, and supporting your signficant other through teleworking and being with children all day you probably don’t want to spend a ton of time in your kitchen (unless you’re like me falling into an anxiety trap). While I teach meal planning, a lot of times the meals that I share are ingredient specific or take some time to create. But I’m not spending a lot of my time creating over the top meals during this crisis.
And I’m sure as hell not focusing on eating a specialized diet of “immune boosting Covid-19 detering” foods either. I’m feeding my family, just like you are. I’m feeding my family off of what is available at the store. I’m feeding my family foods that they will eat, limit complaining and foods that will fuel them and me while we are sheltering ourselves.
Let’s be real, we don’t know how long this is going to last. But I do know I’m not going to set the standarof 5 star meals the first week of isolation. I also know that Pinterest can be an overwhelming vortex of good and crappy tasting food and recipes. I have a ton of go-to recipes on hand from years of sifting through sh*t. And I’m compiling all of these into my family meal plans. I’m all about keeping smiles on faces in my house. And that means I’m not serving perfectly sautéed brussels sprouts to my almost 4 year old.
This is why I’m going to be sharing my weekly meal plans with you. I don’t have resources for teaching your child Mandarin during your social isolation, but I can give you good, simple meal plans that you can use as a resource as you battle it out at your local grocery.
